Communications Intern

The Communications Intern for United for a Fair Economy (UFE) will focus primarily on research and writing on key issues including: income and wealth inequality, fair taxation at the state and federal levels, racial economic justice, the foreclosure crisis, unemployment, money and democracy, immigration, and corporate accountability.

Internship Description:

  1. Attend weekly Communications Team planning meetings (Mondays, 2:00 p.m.)
  2. Browse daily news headlines for relevant stories
  3. Produce content for UFE's "Mind the Gap" blog, including pilot "From the Intern Desk" recurring theme
  4. Assist with daily/weekly website maintenance
  5. Help to engage followers/supporters via social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  6. Provide research and writing support for UFE's print newsletters, including Fair Play and Responsible Wealth Action News
  7. Draft press advisories and releases, spokesperson bios and op-eds for media campaigns
  8. Collect and maintain record of UFE's media coverage
  9. Includes other communications-related logistical and administrative tasks

Helpful Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Familiarity with Mac operating system, Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro (training provided), email distribution web applications (training provided)
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member
  • Detail-oriented, high standards for quality of work
  • Proficiency with Spanish language for translation of web content (not required)

Schedule & Compensation:

This internship requires a minimum of 16 hours per week. Start and end dates, as well as weekly schedule, are flexible. Monday attendance is preferred (but not required) for participation in weekly Communications Team planning meetings. UFE will provide intern with a monthly MBTA pass.
